The Pygmalion Effect and The Secret (see film below)

The Pygmalion Effect and Self-Fulfilling Prophecy (The Secret) - Refer to situations where once an expectation is set, even if it is not true, some of us will act in ways that are consistent with that expectation. The expectation then becomes true.

We act out who we think we are and not who we truly are.

An example might be a student with low confidence or low self-esteem constantly telling them self that ‘I am useless’, ‘I am unintelligent’ or ‘I am a failure’. The outcome will mirror the false beliefs or false expectations. He or she will never achieve anything especially getting good grades at school.

Other people can knowingly or unknowingly establish a false belief or false expectation. If I as a teacher tell a young person, ‘you are a failure, you will never achieve anything’ the same thing might happen. The young person might accept it consciously or unconsciously and it may be powerful enough to change his or her beliefs about who they are. That young person could act out my expectation.

If we believe that body language makes up the greater part of our communication then a teacher only needs to believe that a young person is a failure. No words are spoken. This communication of tiny cues and signals could be picked up by that young person and acted upon. This is communication at the subconscious level and can sometimes be very powerful.

If you remember Pygmalion by the Playwright George Bernard Shaw, we see something similar. Professor Higgins bet that he could transform a cockney flower girl into a Duchess and no one would be able to tell the difference. He did. Later Eliza Doolittle (the Duchess) said to Higgins’ friend Pickerng ‘you see, really and truly, apart from the things anyone can pick up (the dressing and the proper way of speaking and so on) the difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves but how she is treated. I shall always be a flower girl to Prof Higgins because he treats me as a flower girl and always will, but I know I can be a lady to you because you always treat me as a lady and always will.

From today communicate with yourself and others (Emotional Intelligence) in a way that reflects your, and their, strengths, qualities, attributes, skills and talents. You must start focusing on all that is positive and dismiss everything that is negative.

EVERY human, including you, has strengths, qualities, attributes, talents and skills. Believe in yourself and others from today and you will give yourself the power to change lives.

The Secret is The Law of Attraction

A thought is a picture you create in your head. That picture creates a feeling or emotion. That feeling or emotion will attract a similiar experience. A positive feeling or emotion will create positive experiences and a bad feeling will create negative experiences. In other words your life will be created through your thoughts and feelings. YOU CREATE YOUR FUTURE.

Your thoughts are energy. The whole universe around you is energy. If you want something badly enough and are passionate enough about it, you will eventually achieve it.

Here is the first 20 minutes of the film 'The Secret'. This film is very powerful.
