Inspirational Student

I stood on the shoulders of Giants

We are looking for stories of achievement through adversity. Do you know of anyone who has been inspirational in what they did? What they overcame? It may be a friend, a family member or even someone you don't have a relationship with.

If you are a teacher did you ever have an inspirational student? Has a student ever inspired you? Did you ever teach a student who survived and went on to achieve against all the odds? We would like to hear your story.

When I was younger my brother really had it rough. He was abused physically and mentally by my father which was his step father. He never told his dad though. My dad would always mock his dreams or tell him he was going to grow up to be nothing. My mother whom I love did nothing though. By 10th grad my brother's real father went to jail for attempted murder. This really took a toll on my brother. He hasn't spoken to him since or visited. My brother finally made it to 12th grade and had it hard in school because due to being mistreated in the house he resulted to other destructive things. When it came time for graduation he wasn't able to graduate and wanted to quit. My dad wanted him out then but my mom wanted him to graduate so his life would be better. My dad would say that he wouldn't graduate and put him down. So school started back again and he decided to go back. Graduation time came up again and there was my brother whom I'm proud of today went across that stage. My dad didn't have anything to say when he was asked at the party which upset me but my brother showed that he was the bigger person and said thank you to him and my mother. What I admire is that my brother is so unselfish and no matter what he doesn't live by what was done to him he still moves on.
