Shannon Valley Grove

by D. Light
(Indiana)

Shannon came to me very low. She did not qualify for special ed and was just considered a slow learner. She never let me or herself down. She was an extremely hard worker. She had parents that stood behind her and always made sure she was in school and that she did her homework. At the end of the school year, I was faced with a dilemma: should I send her on or should I retain her? Even though her scores were still low, she had achieved so much during that school year and worked so hard. I decided to send her on, and I wondered if I had made the right decision and if her next year's teacher would think that I had made the right decision. That was two years ago, and I just found out that she will be moving on to the next grade. I am so proud of her. Even though school has been really hard for her, she has never given up and I hope that continues throughout her school career.
